START: HELP. THANKS. WOW. NOW!

HELP. THANKS. WOW.

Relating to the book by Anne Lamott

More on my new book pick, which I sited last month; now a frequent gift for birthday, graduation and coping gifts from the White house. Not THAT White house, you  silly goose. My White house. Here’s how it works…

Jeff’s and my parents are still living. Age tally: mine: 88.5; his: 85. Friends who’ve lost parents at young ages tell us we’re lucky to still have them. Yes, we are. But watching Dad steadily decline feels more agonizing than lucky. He hates it. So do we. Some days, I don’t know what to hope for him: life or death. On bad days, I just pray/think to whoever is listening: HELP.  That seems to help, because the next day, he’s more stable and lucid. Then, I say to someone or something         (depending on your beliefs),

THANKS.  When Mom fell on my watch, her thin shin skin was compromised. (I’m too squeamish to  describe what it REALLY looked like) HELP. She was calm in ER. THANKS. The wound, by some miracle is healing. WOW.

On May 11, Nick graduated from Illinois. There’s something about commencement…WOW. And, for a rare, few days, our family was together. THANKS.Our friends, Linda & Jim hosted a celebration in Nick’s honor.  They were so many things to us during Korey and Nick’s college years: hosts, helpers, surrogate family. When we majored or minored in emergencies (HELP) they delivered.THANKS. They opened their home to us; we saved thousands of hotel and food (and wine) dollars. Even when they weren’t home. Oskee –

WOW-WOW!  May 13, I flew to Warren/Youngstown Ohio. 600 Senior Circle members from Northside Medical Center and Trumbull Memorial Hospital came to hear a motivational speaker

. (Me) After 12 years of speaking, it’s corny but true, it’s still a WOW to me. The hospitality shown me by Kelli, Sally, and Deb, was over the top.THANKS.  The last leg of my flight home was

very tight. HELP. Made it. THANKS.

And I got to be co-pilot on the 9-seater prop plane, on a beautiful evening. WOW.

At home, when I walk by my self-designed garden, I think, “WOW. I did that!”

As I write this, Lily White, the black Lab, steals my phone, wallet, TV remote and socks, because she wants attention. HELP.Then she settles by my feet

and naps. THANKS. Dogs are so cool. WOW.

On this cool, damp Memorial Week-end, I’m one of the few saying THANKS, because my to-do list isn’t ready for summer yet. HELP.

Okay, you get the idea, right? The idea isn’t rocket surgery. Some HELPS are desperate pleas for intervention; others are petty frustrations. The main point is that THANKS and WOWS can’t be too big or small to ignore. It feels good to be amazed by life’s simple pleasures. I just wish I could stop coming up with them so I can end this article.HELP.  But I must, so it can be sent to my nearly 1,200 subscribers.  THANKS. Because May is almost over and it’s nearly my favorite month: June. WOW. bw

Speaker~Author~Certified Laughter Leader (Seriously!) I look at life with a sense of humor and the gift of laughter and help organizations do the same. I try to write the way I talk, so you will find me less stuffy than Miss Huddleston's English Class and and a step above a toddler. I figure that if we all "play attention" to humor in our daily routines, and we'll all have more joy and less stress in this thing called life.
